The Implosion Bigger Than The BH Boys

I am still baffled by how comfortable Nigeria as a nation and Nigeria as a people is with the number of OUT OF SCHOOL CHILDREN ON THE STREETS.

I really didn't know how severe the issue was until I had near firsthand experience with what is known as the almajiri system as operated in Nigeria. No thanks to Covid and work from home, I saw young boys less than 15 years walking the streets begging for alms. It gets even worse as these kids continue begging till late in the night, practically knocking on people's doors with their bowls in their hands.

Two things have come to mind since I witnessed the disturbing trend. The first is how would a parent allow his boy walk the streets begging from strangers who could be dangerous. Another worry is what happens when these kids do not get alms and probably have to sleep with empty stomachs for days.

So this is what happens, the out of school children we assume to be products of the almajiri system become vulnerable and can be easily recruited by evil groups to perpetrate their devilish acts. On the other hand, these kids' hearts become hardened and they turn against their immediate environment, becoming armed robbers and kidnappers.

It is easy for us to blame the government and complain in the comfort of our offices or even on the streets of social media. However, more needs to be done as regards our education. No effort is too little in this instance especially as these eventually attack their immediate environment instead of the big guys who dabaru their destiny.

Volunteer to teach in a primary school, sponsor the education of a child as an individual or a community, organize makeshift lessons for these kids, or just talk to someone that knows someone who can do something.

Remember this is just one part of the country and you can imagine what goes on across the nation. When these things implode or explode in our faces, e go pass BH and IPOB put together.

But what do I even know sef.
