Qatar 2022: The World Cup Like No Other

The 2022 FIFA world in Qatar is undoubtedly historic in all facets. So besides the fact that it is the first such tournament to be held in the Middle East, an Arab country, or a Muslim nation, it is also the first time a FIFA World Cup is played in the middle of a football season.

The tournament has had its fair share of controversy, including the human rights violation allegations against the country and the recent revelation by Sepp Blatter. However, there are more facts that have Qatar 2022 even more spectacular.

First of, it is the most compact football tournament ever, with the stadia only a few kilometres away from one another. Therefore, football fans can watch multiple matches live in any of their favourite stadia.

Secondly, it is the first time a nation is hosting the world Cup their own way. It started with the controversy surrounding the promotion of LGBTQ+ in the country, after the nation explicitly stated its "dislike" and intolerance for the movement. Qatar also recently banned the sale of alcohol within the vicinity of stadia, only 72 hours before the commencement of the tournament. What does this mean? Sponsors, in this case, Budweiser, will have to restrategise on how to promote their product.

It is obvious that Qatar has damned all the consequences of hosting a tournament of such a magnitude on their  own terms and the world can only watch on and enjoy the beautiful round leather game and try to forget the sentiments off the field.

Can I wish you all a happy #Qatar2022 even if 9ja no dey?
Anyway, what do I even know sef.
