5 Fun Activities to do as you sit at home



COVID-19 has wreaked a lot of havoc across the globe. One of the measures governments of countries have taken to curb the spread of the virus include encouraging people to stay at home and restrict their movements to only necessary activities.

As social animals, a restriction on movement can be devastating to the emotional and mental health of an average being. Consequently, I have come up with a list of things that can be done as we observe the stay at home order by the authorities.

Colour or Doddle

Studies have revealed that colouring geometric patterns such as symmetrical mandala patterns and colouring books can help to reduce anxiety. Therefore, you might want to break out of your adult colouring book and have some fun and mental exercise as you stay at home. 

Take a Walk

Walking is not just a physical activity, but can also offer some mental benefits. According to a study done in 2016, walking can make you happier as it reduces the feeling of boredom and dread. 

If the order does not stop you from going out, talking a walk outside would be a good way to stay at home. However, ensure that you stay at least six feet from others.

Sleep

This might be an opportunity to get up to 8 hours of sleep, especially for those that work round the clock. It could also help you to fight infectious diseases and viruses. 

Do Yoga

Working from home can make you feel stiff and yoga is one way to reduce the stiffness.  The activity can also help to boost your mood, reduce stress and anxiety, and boost your self-esteem. 
If you don't know how to do yoga,  YouTube is your friend. 

Chat with a friend 

This could be the time to reach out to your friends and closed relatives. Call, text, email, and video chat to maintain some virtual closeness and connection amidst the social distancing.

Listen to Podcasts or Meditate on the word of God

This is the time to get close to the Almighty. While we can take all the preventive measures possible, we cant take away the grace of God and his power to take away this scourge in a second. Therefore, listen to whatever makes you happy and try to meditate on the word of God from the Bible or Quran depending on your fate.

It is trying times for all of us and we know that this too shall pass.
