When Militancy Becomes Lucrative
The late Yar'Adua introduced the amnesty program to kinda appease the aggrieved people of the Niger Delta region after years. The different groups that agitated seemingly had a goal - to better the situation of the region. While the achievements of the NDDC and their contributions to the betterment of the people from this supposedly neglected region remains debatable, everyone can agree with that there was a need for such an intervention, particularly as oil remains the country's largest source of revenue and the continuous destruction of pipelines and kidnappings of oil workers threatened Nigeria's revenue source.
Fast forward to February 2020, a supposedly distinguished senator is proposing a bill to establish a commission for the rehabilitation of "repentant" Boko Haram members, with the benefits including sending the so-called repentant agitators as the senators called them abroad for education.
Besides the fact that no one seems to care about the real victims of the war - displaced persons, families of slain soldiers, and those suffering from PTSD, I am bothered about the concern for BH members who should be prosecuted. Even if they have repented as so claimed, why do you have to send them abroad for any reason? Another source of concern to me is the authenticity of these repentant agitators. How can their identities be confirmed? Could the move be a plot to share the national cake to another set of people so they enjoy something similar to our Niger Delta brothers? Instead of sending them away, can they be used as a source of information to fight the insurgency or the agitation if I can use that word.
Instead of spending millions of dollars on educating "repentant" agitators, would it make more sense to focus on rehabilitating the real war victims?
Or can any group spring up, start some form of commotion, and expect to get some reward from the government. This makes Militancy even more attractive to people.
Anyways, what do I even know sef?

Who is fooling who? Is it the government or the disguised (false repentant) dreaded militant. Who is fooling who?
